Father and Son’s Race

I have longed to be a part of God’s big movement in Makati and when Coach Noel Tan (NT) laid the vision for Project Mosaic, my heart leapt with excitement and at the same time felt a little daunted by this enormous task. I just felt God is challenging me to take a leap of faith and witness how He will reveal His glory and faithfulness through this project. The first activity announced was Walk/Jog for a Cause in Ultra. Honestly, I hate running long distances. I had participated before in our company’s 3K Fun Runs and my standing was not something to be proud of especially for a man then in his early thirties. In short, I just don’t have the endurance, stamina and patience in running long distance races. This somehow reflects the spiritual journey I’ve had. I started early and strong in the Lord but somehow the distractions along the way sidetracked me. With this in mind, I was reminded that it’s not how fast you started the race but what matters is how long you will stay in the race.
I aimed to complete 25 laps, one lap for every year of Bread of Life. But I need to know the distance of one lap of oval track of Ultra. So I researched Google Earth to measure its outer lane and found it to be approximately 450 meters. This would make 11.25 km, the distance I had to complete.
Where would my strength come from? I knew this is something I haven’t ever done before. “I lift up my eyes to the hills where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2)
During the event, my son asked if he could jog by my side. I relented and allowed him to run with me for about two laps. I then asked him to just wait for me at the finish line. For each lap I made, he handed me towels, wiped my face, and handed water to quench my thirst, ran to the other side of the oval and did the same. Little did I know that the Lord used my son to give me strength and endurance to finish the 25 laps I committed to Him.
“Nawawala nga pagod ko. . . Tsaka pinag-pray nya ang pagtakbo ko bago sya matulog. Ganda ng weather kanina, di uminit hanggang matapos. Grabe si Lord!”
